Talea and her two brothers Jared and Blake grew up together in the family home at Oakdale. Both Jared and Blake were born with a disability and attended a local special needs school.
When they completed year 12, both Blake and Jared joined the Interchange Australia Day Options Campus located at Camden and continued to participate in the Day Options Program when it relocated to Narellan.
After spending the early years of her career supporting a local family with a child with disability, Talea joined Interchange Australia as a support worker where she works in the Narellan Campus as part of the Day Options Program staff and provides in-home support to clients to assist them to remain living independently in their own home.
“I love the practical side of my job,” said Talea. “I enjoy assisting all of the clients I work with and am exploring opportunities to become a Support Coordinator in the future.”
Since Jared and Blake joined the Day Options Program, Talea has observed first-hand the positive improvements both of her brothers have made.
“Both Jared and Blake have experienced positive changes since joining Interchange Australia. Jared has become more independent and has a thorough understanding of what is planned for the day,” Talea explains. On Tuesday, he has his swimmers ready for the pool. On Thursday, he brings in his guitar to play in the music program and on Friday he makes sure he has money for lunch to go on the weekly outing. Blake really loves crowds and his favourite outing each week is the mystery tour. He enjoys browsing through magazines, socialising with his friends and overall just being included in all the activities that are planned.”
It is encouraging to see how the Day Options Program has assisted both Jared and Blake to become more social and independent and that Talea is gaining experience in a profession that she loves. Congratulations to Jared, Blake and Talea on their achievements so far.
