The Invaluable Role of Parents and Carers – By Interchange Australia Consultant, Debra Burford
In my role as a consultant with Interchange Australia, I am reminded on a daily basis of the invaluable support and unconditional love parents and carers show towards their children.
Every child is unique. They all face challenges throughout life but they all possess a range of skills and talents that they develop throughout their life. With the support of their parents, children have the opportunity to pursue their goals, regardless of what their goals may be.
My colleagues and I have met with many parents and carers who have come to Interchange Australia to assist them in arranging support services for their child. These services are designed to meet individual needs, to enhance independence, health and wellbeing. The positive outcomes that have been delivered for these clients have been documented in our series of articles published on our website.
The services Interchange Australia provides helps people with disability to make new friends, participate in fun activities, learn new skills, live independently, go out with a group of people or on their own, have sleepovers with friends, assist with looking after their health, their home and to pursue ongoing education and work experience.
The positive outcomes that are achieved for clients result from a combination of the clients own personal aspirations and the services delivered. However, without the love and support of parents and carers who link with service providers such as Interchange Australia, the child may never get to explore the opportunities that are available to them.
This clip, produced as part of the marketing campaign for the 2018 Winter Olympics, encapsulates the love and support all parents and carers give to their children, traits that I am privileged to see every day.
My colleagues and I look forward to providing support for parents and carers to ensure that their child’s life goals and aspirations are achieved.
