Lexi: Learning New Skills and Enjoying Unique Experiences – By Interchange Australia Marketing Manager, Joseph Lyons
Lexi became a client of Interchange Australia in 2017.
Since joining Interchange Australia, Lexi has learnt new skills, participated in work experience, enjoyed a variety of exciting outings and has pursued her love of music through the Interchange Australia music program.
Lexi attends the Day Options Program at Narellan three days per week and participates in a wide range of activities that focus on furthering her education and optimising health and well-being. Lexi’s favourite activities include cooking and music. Through the cooking classes, Lexi has learnt an array of recipes and cooking techniques and she looks forward to the music class each and every week. “I love participating in the music class,” Lexi said. “I enjoy singing and my favourite type of music is Country. I have been to a lot of concerts including Lee Kernaghan, Adam Harvey and Garth Brooks. I have been to the Tamworth Country Music Festival a couple of times and I saw Keith Urban perform in Sydney on Australia Day too.” Lexi has performed with Kookaburra House at Rock the Houses events at Picton and is a regular attendee at the annual Interchange Australia music concert, “RockCan”. “I enjoy performing and have recently started to learn how to play guitar through my music class,” Lexi explained. “I’m very excited to be part of a new band at Narellan and look forward to performing at RockCan 2019!”
As part of her participation in the Day Options Program, Lexi engages in work experience with Coles and the local cinema where she performs a variety of tasks and continues to develop work skills.
Peer Support is another activity that Lexi looks forward to each weekend where she attends outings to a wide variety of places, events and attractions. “I enjoy meeting new friends and experiencing new places. My favourite outings have been the Goulburn Rodeo and the Berry Show,” stated Lexi.
In her leisure time, Lexi enjoys photographing animals and landscapes and she has entered her photos in numerous local shows. Lexi is a hardworking and passionate volunteer at both the Camden Show and Royal Easter Show. At the Camden Show, Lexi has undertaken duties as a steward and has assisted with packing all the ribbons, care of trophies and managing paperwork. She was also the runner-up showgirl in 2014. Lexi has developed her leadership skills with the assistance of Interchange Australia staff at Narellan which in turn has led to her being nominated as a Support Buddy at the Easter Show. “I want to become more of a leader this year. I’m confident that I can do it and to help people visiting the show.”
Lexi also enjoys spending time with her beloved miniature horse, Snip, on her Aunties property. “Owning a horse is a very big responsibility,” Lexi explained. “I feed and groom Snip and enjoy spending time with him. We have a very special relationship.”
Lexi is living her life to the fullest and her effervescent personality and ambition to experience new things and to enhance her skills and independence is inspiring. Congratulations Lexi on all of your achievements so far.
