There’s never been a better time to be a Support Worker. There’s never been a better time to work at Interchange.
Our Industry is the fastest growing industry in Australia, and from what I’ve seen, that trajectory is not going to change any time soon. The sheer variety and availability of work, along with the ability to constantly better myself, makes this type of work both relevant to who I am, and unique amongst my friends and family.
But I’ve learnt the hard way that choosing who you work for can define you and how successful you are. And since joining Interchange, I feel that I have had more opportunities to develop. Our new HR Manager said to me last week that he wants Interchange to facilitate both great care and great careers. That’s very re-assuring, and from the first moment I started with Interchange, the office staff wanted to know what skills I had, and wanted to help me develop myself knowing that it would benefit our clients.
If you’ve got hidden talents, I really recommend speaking to one of the Office Team – because they can ultimately build client programmes based on something that you love doing!
In terms of care and services, it’s clear to me that Interchange understands the direction that Disability and Aged Care are taking, and so really leads the field with the approach to clients. It’s nice to hear words like empower, enable and innovate. And it’s not lost on me that the last two Information Sessions have focussed on helping clients to achieve their goals and develop their abilities.
I know that I am in safe hands with Interchange, but at the same time, I know that I am the master of my own destiny. To other Support Workers reading this, I encourage you to continue to upskill, find niches that suit you as well as work for Interchange, and like me, you can write your own story.
