NDIS Case Study: Achieving Success With Her Goals, Bec’s Story
Interchange Australia is an approved provider of supports under the National Disability Insurance Scheme across NSW. The NDIS provides eligible people under 65 years of age with funding to purchase support services, therapies and equipment from approved providers. Interchange Australia provides a variety of supports under the NDIS, including:
• Participation in community, social and civil activities;
• Short term accommodation assistance;
• Assistance with daily life tasks;
• Assistance with daily personal activities; and
• Support coordination
Bec has been with Interchange Australia for over six years and commenced her NDIS supports in January this year. She has been happy with her plan and the supports she is receiving. One of her goals was to join a mainstream OzTag team. Initially a support worker assisted Bec in signing up to the competition at Mittagong and meeting her new team. She is now a proud member of a mixed team called 2 sore to score and attends each Wednesday by herself. Bec is enjoying meeting new friends, having fun and “running around like a bullet”. She plans to play each season and stay in the same team with her new friends!
Keeping fit is very important to Bec, she also attends Moss Vale Aquatic Centre once a fortnight. She is accompanied by a support worker who assists Bec to use the gym equipment. They have great fun chatting before her session whilst she has her afternoon tea.
In addition to her fitness goals, Bec has a support worker visit her family home once a fortnight to help her transition into independent living. Together they decide on a recipe and cook a meal for Bec’s family. Bec values the support of the 1:1 service so that she can chat with them about her future goal of living in her own home. She likes to have the help of support workers so that she isn’t solely relying on her parents and family.
Bec is also a regular attendee of our dinner groups and Saturday activities. She likes to socialise with her friends and meet new people. Bec likes the variety and visiting different places. She really likes choosing which dinner groups and activities she attends. Some of her favourites have been the ferry ride from Cronulla to Bundeena, Bronte to Clovelly walk and the Mexican taco night.
Bec’s story highlights the positive outcomes achieved as a result of her personal ambition and the NDIS support services provided by Interchange Australia.
