Research suggests certain lifestyle and health factors are good for the brain, body and heart and can help reduce the risk of developing dementia. Keeping your brain stimulated, your body fit and your heart healthy is easier than you think. Here are five simple steps to maximise your brain health.
Step 1 : Look after your heart keeping a check on your weight, avoiding smoking, and knowing your blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar;
Step 2 : Do some physical activity and exercise frequently every week;
Step 3 : Mentally challenge your brain by learning new things such as a language, taking up a new sport or enrolling into a course in a subject of interest;
Step 4 : Follow a healthy diet eating a range of foods including vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts, legumes, fish, chicken and lean meat; and
Step 5 : Enjoy social activity by keeping company with people you enjoy associating with
