“It gives us a peace of mind that we can stay together in our home, remaining safe and well cared for. We really enjoy the company of our support workers and office staff alike, the staff at Interchange have all been wonderful and helpful at all times.” – Jim & Alice
By Interchange Australia Marketing Coordinator Tahlia Bunt
Jim and Alice were married in 1956 in London when Alice was travelling and working abroad, Alice a stenographer and Jim was in the air force as an aircraft engine mechanic. Jim was born in England, where Alice was born in Australia. The couple moved to Australia in 1960 – where Jim started as a bus driver, moved on to railway and then became a train driver for 33 years. Alice really enjoyed her job and while she stayed home to raise three beautiful children also picked up odd jobs here and there where she could. Their three children loved being involved in sport and lived a very active lifestyle – Alice and Jim really enjoyed watching their children play sport, Alice even managed a soccer team or two!
The last time they counted, Alice and Jim had a total of 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, and can only hope for more on the way.
Once Jim retired in 1994, they both really enjoyed travelling all over the world and exploring Australia on incredible bus tours. Alice always loved travelling, hence how she met her husband Jim. Alice travelled the world extensively before meeting Jim and was extremely happy to travel again with her husband once their children grew up and they finished their working lives.
Nowadays they have slowed down the pace. They enjoy their time sitting side by side, Jim in his blue chair and Alice in her cream chair, together in the lounge room watching TV and reminiscing about their wild adventures they have had all over the world and with their family.
Alice has been with Interchange Australia since 2018 receiving a Home Care package, and Jim recently joined her after seeing the exceptional care his wife was receiving. In their Home care Packages, Jim and Alice receive Domestic Assistance, Personal Care and Transport services, and are in the process of looking into purchasing two lift chairs to make their lives a bit more manageable in their old age.
We asked Jim and Alice what they thought their biggest benefits were having services with Interchange Australia, and this was their response “It gives us a peace of mind that we can stay together in our home, remaining safe and well cared for. We really enjoy the company of our support workers and office staff alike. The staff at Interchange have all been wonderful and helpful at all times.”
We really enjoyed speaking to Jim and Alice about their lives and it’s really amazing to see the hard work we put in paying off. Seeing the happiness and fulfilment our clients are feeling and experiencing their life stories make a real impact.
