Here at Interchange Australia we have a wide range of staff, both in our office and out in the field performing all the services for our valued clients and participants. We regularly try to shine a spotlight on these amazing staff to show you all just how incredibly hard working they all are.
Today we are introducing you to Sarah who is a CHSP Coordinator as part of the Aged Care team in the Bowral Office.
“Choose a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”
By Interchange Australia Marketing Coordinator Tahlia Bunt.
My name is Sarah and I am a CHSP Coordinator for Interchange Australia in Bowral. I am 30 years old and have been at Interchange since 2021. I was initially hired in a Support Worker role where I worked in the community and then last year I made the transition into a reception role in the Bowral office. Shortly after starting at reception, I was offered a position as part of the Aged Care team.
In 2018 at the age of 25 I suffered from a benign brain tumour, I got very sick and had to have brain surgery twice. The experience of going through something so life threatening so young has put life into such a different perspective for me and a lot of people have said that I am an old soul who is very wise beyond my years. I am in the clear now, 5 years later, which is something I am so proud of battling.
My favourite quote is “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life”. My goal is to go further in my role and progress into a management role, I have worked for so many businesses where the management wasn’t the best and I have always said that if I was in their position there is so much I would do better, so that is the direction I am steering towards.
Before Interchange I worked in a nursing home for 6 years where I completed my Certificate III in Health Services Assistance (AIN) and Certificate IV in Aging Support. Working in the Aged Care Industry is something I am so passionate about, I love looking after people and am a very empathetic and passionate person. Not many people find their passion in life and I feel so lucky that I have found my passion within my job.
On a daily basis I get to meet so many different people and hear so many different stories. I feel as though I could sit with the elderly all day and listen to what they have to say, the advice they give and the stories about their lives – we can learn a lot from the aging community.
I believe that to be good at your job in the Aged Care industry you need to start from a Support Worker role. I have learnt so much in my role as a Support Worker, understanding the needs of the client from the closest possible role has helped me be so much better at my current position.
My current role at Interchange Australia is as a CHSP Coordinator as part of the Aged Care team. My role is to put in place entry level services for people that need that little bit of extra assistance at home. Services include personal care, domestic assistance, social support and flexible respite. I am studying my Diploma of Community Services and getting trained to also manage Home Care Packages where I will learn more case management. I love my position as I can help people by putting in services in place for them to be able to live independently and stay in their own home.
