What a great school holidays it has been!
Our Day Options Holiday Program was a huge success. We had a big variety of Holiday Adventures this June/July and everyone really enjoyed each day.
We opted for COVID safe options due to the current situations and everyone had a really great time with all the different activities each day. Everyone cannot wait for the next school holidays full of friends, laughs, adventures and fun
In week 1 everyone did soap making! They cut the clear soap base into small blocks and melted it in a pot on the stove. Once melted they added lavender scented oil and blue cornflower petals as well as white goats’ milk soap scented with frangipani essential oil and coloured with calendula petals that turned out a lovey pale yellow colour. They poured the soap into small discs and left them to set. Great little gifts to take home and give to their families and friends.
For Geocaching day our Bowral house headed out to Moss Vale, their first cache was tiny and took so long to find – but they eventually found it in a tricky hiding spot. The second cache was a bit further down the road and they just couldn’t find it! The third cache was placed beside a rotten stump, which was found very quick and easy. With some clever thinking they found the final cache but were unable to retrieve it from its tricky hiding spot. Our Narellan houses opted for safety not venturing out into the community and instead decided on a crazy dress up day!
Because of the current COVID-19 situation unfortunately the group were unable to have their disco and arcade games day – but instead opted for a pizza and movie day which was a huge hit! Everyone got to make their own gourmet pizzas with toppings such as salami, ham, mushrooms, capsicum, onion, on Lebanese bread bases. They watched the movies ‘Miss Potter’ and ‘Quigley Down Under’ and everyone tried not to fall asleep in a huge food coma from the yummy pizzas.
Early week 2 the groups headed out for wildlife watch. Our Bowral houses headed out to Morton National Park and Tallong Long Point Lookout – while our Narellan houses enjoyed the COVID safe version which turned into an “In House Board Game Challenge” and a few people decided to work on the Naidoc week art piece to present to Moss Vale TAFE. Wildlife watching was quite chilly in the shade but the view was spectacular. A lot of the bushland that was burnt in the 2019/2020 bushfires has regenerated so quickly it’s hard to see the devastation it caused. They then enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Gambles Rest picnic area. In Tallong they came across some great wildlife which included deer, kookaburras, finches, kangaroos, wood ducks, magpies, donkeys, and some rosellas. They enjoyed a walk around the lookout area and found an old railway carriage in a paddock on the way to the lookout. Such a fun day for all the houses.
On Magic Trick day Toffee the rabbit came for a visit to our Goulburn houses, Toffee was such a hit with everyone that he has been dubbed an official Interchange Australia worker and will be visiting regularly. For Magic Tricks they learnt the empty tube trick, magic joining rings and the floating straw trick. They ended the day with the movie ‘Dumb and Dumber’ which was full of plenty of fun and laughs.
Amongst these incredible activities was Lunch at a local café, a spa day, a house movie day, taco Tuesday and a picnic and games in the park.
