R U OK? Day is almost here

On Thursday 10 September, people across Australia will come together to mark R U OK?Day, our National Day of Action and a reminder to Ask R U OK? Any Day.

In workplaces large and small, community groups and sporting clubs, schools and homes, people will be asking, ‘are you OK?’  and having meaningful conversations that strengthen connection with the people around them.

As a member of our R U OK? community, you can play an important role by sharing free R U OK? conversation resources, organising an event or activity, wearing yellow to spark conversations, or sharing a personal story about the power of a genuine check-in.

Or perhaps the most important thing you can do is reach out to someone who’s been on your mind and say: “Are you OK? I care about you, and I’m here if you want to talk.”

If someone’s been on your mind, trust that instinct. If you’re thinking it, Ask R U OK? Any Day, because a conversation could change a life.

One of the most powerful ways to encourage people to start an R U OK? Conversation is by sharing stories of the life-changing impact a simple question can have.

Eliza is one of the many who have shared their story with R U OK?.

When her friend Kimberli noticed she wasn’t herself and asked, ‘are you OK?’, it opened the door to a conversation and support when Eliza needed it most.

As you look out for others, please remember to look after yourself too. If the day brings up difficult emotions, be gentle with yourself, take a break if you need one, or reach out to one of the support services listed here.
