Changes and updates
Changes to NDIS Plan Reassessments
The NDIS has introduced changes to the way participants can request a plan reassessment under the new NDIS laws.
A plan reassessment is used when there has been a significant and ongoing change to a participant’s support needs.
From now on, plan reassessments can only be requested by:
- The participant
- Their nominee
- A child representative
Participants will also need to complete a Plan Reassessment Request Form, explaining what has changed and why a reassessment is needed. Supporting evidence, such as information from a GP or health professional, may also be required.
Once the NDIS has received all the information needed, they will make a decision within 90 days.
For urgent, minor or short-term changes, participants may be able to request a plan variation instead.
If you are unsure which type of plan change you need, your NDIS contact can help you understand the process and what evidence may be required.
For more information and to access the Plan Reassessment Request Form, visit the NDIS website.
Updated NDIS Contact Centre Hours
The NDIS has updated the operating hours of its National Contact Centre (NCC), which provides phone support for participants, providers and First Nations Connect.
The NCC is now available from 8am to 7pm local time, Monday to Sunday, in each state and territory. This replaces the previous closing time of 8pm.
There are no changes to how you can contact the NDIS or the services provided by the National Contact Centre.

News
SIL Provider Registration Changes
The NDIS has introduced new registration requirements for Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers. All SIL providers have until 1 October 2026 to register or apply to become registered.
If you receive SIL supports, speak with your provider to confirm whether they are registered or intend to register.
- If your provider is registered or plans to register: you don’t need to do anything.
- If your provider does not plan to register: contact the NDIS to discuss your options. The NDIS can help you find another provider, and your plan, funding and supports will not change as a result of your provider’s decision.
These registration changes do not apply to self-directed support arrangements, where you choose and manage your own support workers, including directing, planning and rostering their work.
If you’re unsure whether these changes apply to you, contact the NDIS for further information.
Extra Security Checks When Contacting the NDIS
The NDIS has introduced additional security checks to help protect participants’ personal information.
When contacting the NDIS by phone, visiting an office, attending a video appointment or speaking with an NDIS partner, you may be asked to confirm information such as your date of birth, email address or home address. You may also receive a one-time security code via your registered email address or mobile phone.
These checks help ensure that only participants or their nominees can access or update personal information.
Participants are encouraged to keep their contact details up to date, preferably through the my NDIS portal. If you are unable to use the portal, the NDIS can assist you with updating your details.
Opportunities
Have Your Say on the New NDIS Laws
The NDIS is seeking feedback on the information and resources people find most useful about the new NDIS laws.
Participants can share what topics they would like more information about and how they prefer to receive updates. This feedback will help the NDIS improve the information and resources it provides.
You can provide feedback through the NDIS Engage website.
Have Your Say on the New Way of Planning
The Australian Government is developing new rules for the NDIS support needs assessment and funding process.
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA) is seeking feedback from people with disability, their families and carers on the proposed rules.
The consultation is asking whether the proposed rules are clear and easy to understand, and what additional information or support would help people understand the changes.
Consultation closes on 14 October 2026.
To find out more or provide feedback, visit the DHDA website.
