Are you from South-West Sydney and looking for somewhere to have a short break away from home? Want to meet new people? Do activities with peers? Go on adventures? Learn valuable life skills?
Then Interchange Australia’s Short Term Accommodation (Respite) program located at Narellan is the perfect place for you.
Short Term Accommodation (Respite) is funding for support and accommodation for a short time away from your usual home. In our houses we offer you the opportunity to develop daily living skills; from practicing how to make your bed, learning personal care & hygiene, housekeeping, and developing cooking skills. You will also do activities both in and out of the house, adjusting to new environments, meet new people – or hang out with people you already know!
Interchange Australia offers Short Term Accommodation (Respite) across several locations. At Narellan we currently run 4 small gender specific programs Friday through Sunday, beginning at 4pm Friday and ending 4pm on Sunday – most choose to stay the whole weekend, and some choose not to stay the night at all, it is all up to your personal preference. Currently we hold a boys group once a month, a girls group once a month, and two separate 1 on 1 services both throughout the week and on weekends.
We endeavour to make our Respite programs as fun and educational as possible giving you many opportunities and activities to complete in the duration of your stay. Our two Narellan houses that offer Respite are located in a very central location, making it incredibly easy for us to venture out into the community, we always enjoy getting out of the house for some fun local activities, going out for dinner, joining in on the Interchange Adventures Peer Support groups and visiting numerous attractions across the greater Sydney region and other parts of NSW as part of a day trip. We also offer mini golf, bowling, picnics, movies and much more. The choice is yours!
If the weather is bad or you feel like having a more relaxed weekend we have in-house activities including playing Wii, versing each other in board games, dancing, playing sport, exercising, listening to music and BBQ’s.
We currently have two houses in Narellan offering respite, one house which sleeps 5 and the other house sleeps 3. In addition to Narellan we also offer Respite at our Southern Highlands property in Burradoo, Goulburn and Nowra houses, where you stay is up to you.
We focus on continual improvement across our services and are always welcoming more people into our programs. Whether it be Respite, Day Programs, Supported Education, Performing Arts classes, Peer Support or other one to one services. Through our programs you will gain important life skills, build lasting friendships and have lots of fun –the big smiles on everyone’s faces tells us exactly that.
