“I strongly feel, working in the community care industry, it is my responsibility to protect the health of our vulnerable clients. It was a very easy process…”
The covid-19 vaccine rollout is well under way, and we as Aged Care and Disability workers are eligible to get ours now! There are over 5 million other Australians who have gotten the jab, including all of the managers and many of the support workers at Interchange Australia.
Interchange is not going to enforce mandatory vaccination for any of our staff, however we do anticipate that similarly to the flu vaccine, there will be a number of aged care facilities that will not allow Interchange staff members in to work with their clients unless they can provide proof of vaccination. This means that in the coming months especially for those who work out in the community and in aged care facilities, we highly recommend booking in your vaccination as soon as possible. It is also important to keep in mind that you are not considered to be fully vaccinated until you have had 2 doses – which for the Astra-Zeneca vaccine is 12 weeks and the Pfizer vaccine is 3 weeks. Your MyGov account will record the vaccination on your immunisation register, and this can be used as proof of vaccination when needed.
“I had my first Covid vaccination today through the sonic health link. The whole process was very easy from booking an appointment online (there were a lot of appointments available), through to having the vaccine and being observed for 25 minutes afterwards. All the Sonic staff were very friendly and thorough.”
Amy Mather, Interchange Australia Support Worker
“I have received my first dose of Astra-Zeneca COVID-19 vaccine and I’m extremely grateful to all involved in the roll out. The process was easy and everyone was so friendly and helpful throughout the process, it took all of 20 minutes which included 15 minutes waiting time after the injection. I was a little tired and my arm was a little sore for a day, but no other side effects. I chose to get vaccinated not only for their protection of myself, my family and friends but everyone I come in contact with on a daily basis.”
Vanessa Lanyon, Interchange Australia Client Services Manager
“My experience getting the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine could not have been easier. I attended the Sonic Health Vaccination Centre in Campbelltown, and was in and out in less than 20 minutes, including the 15 minute monitoring period post injection. It was organised, efficient and with plenty of parking available. In respect to making an appointment, I was able to do this online, and had a number of appointments to choose from for the very next day!!”
Alastair Orr, Interchange Australia HR Manager
“Not only because I work in the Human Services Sector where Interchange Australia provides services to people with disability and the aged, who are vulnerable and potentially more susceptible to contracting COVID-19 did I get the jab, but it’s also important for the protection of the people I work with, my family and friends, the community and the survival of the many businesses which are struggling because of this disease. ”
Mark Populin, Interchange Australia CEO
“I recently got my first COVID vaccination because I want life to get back to what it was pre COVID. I want to be able to travel domestically and internationally. I want to be able to eat out, go to the movies, go shopping and do all the normal everyday things we did before this virus took hold of world. I also strongly feel, working in the community care industry, it is my responsibility to protect the health of our vulnerable clients. It was a very easy process to get the vaccination and I didn’t have any side effects at all. I encourage all Australians to get vaccinated as soon as possible to protect themselves and their fellow Aussies!”
