Ryan’s peers describe him as a caring and fun person with a wicked sense of humour…
By Interchange Australia Marketing Coordinator Tahlia Bunt
Ryan is a 30 year old man who has a moderate intellectual disability, epilepsy and an endocrine condition which affects his bone /muscle development. Ryan has been with Interchange Australia for over 10 years, he currently attends day Options 5 days a week, Respite 5 times a month and also has morning and afternoon support 5 days a week. Ryan really enjoys gardening, pruning, and absolutely loves getting outside to water the new vegetable garden beds every day that everyone has created at Travis house. In fact I caught him outside yesterday doing just that!
Ryan has experienced many changes over his years attending Day Options and has adapted extremely well to new challenges as well as forming some great friendships with staff and his peers who describe Ryan as a caring and fun person with a wicked sense of humour. Ryan shows an extreme keenness to learn new skills on a daily basis and is very fond of keeping up to date with local community events and happenings. So if we need to know what’s happening around town, we ask Ryan!
Ryan’s favourite activity at Day Options is the 2Fit 2Quit program. He enjoys getting out for a walk or playing some cricket in the backyard. One of his passions is trains, he really enjoys keeping an eye on which trains are coming and going from Mittagong during his after hours support. During the day and when he attends Respite, Ryan enjoys doing Jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and playing Wii Fit on the TV. His favourite food is fish and chips, but would really prefer catching his own fish when he has attended Interchange Adventures on a Friday.
Throughout his years with Interchange Australia, Ryan has progressed really well. Increasing his skills to become a very independent young man and one day hopes to go to Fraser Island with his brother and do lots of fishing!
We always love reading and writing these stories from our participants, it really makes a difference being able to see and hear the amazing progress people receive while attending our programs.
