My name is Dianna and I work at the reception desk here at Interchange Australia. My role in reception is such a broad role it’s quite difficult to sum it up quickly. Kim and I work together in reception and I couldn’t imagine anyone better to share the role with. Our job is to be the physical face and voice at the Interchange Head office. We handle general enquiries, office needs, face-to-face reception enquiries, over the phone enquiries, general office support for other staff members, office event organisation, helping with any Support Worker enquiries and lots of other bits and pieces.
I really enjoy my role as no two days are the same. There is so much variety in my role which keeps me on my toes. Each day Kim and I are always interacting with new people both face to face and over the phone, it is so incredible to hear so many different stories and to be there for those who may not have someone in their lives to check up on them. You can never know someone’s whole story just from a phone call, we always ensure we treat each person with as much care and respect, as if they were our own family.
I am married with two sons and I have lived the Southern Highlands for 11 years. I have 2 step children and 4 step grandchildren. I enjoy spending time at home with my family and our very loveable fur babies. As a mother of a child living with Autism, I know how challenging it can be to navigate the disability system and because of my lived experience I am able to listen to our clients’ needs and support and direct them to the people that can help.
Before working at Interchange Australia I worked in childcare for 6 years. I loved my role in Childcare but I was feeling that I needed a change. I knew I that an admin role with Interchange would give me the life/work balance I needed as well as allow be to work in a field that I am very drawn to.
I have quite a strong connection with wanting to help others, so all of my roles have been down the same path. I have worked overseas in the United States at a Summer Camp for people living with disabilities. Working at the camp was incredible, and I gained a lot of experience working in the disability industry.
Working at Interchange in the Bowral Head Office is such a rewarding position. I love the variety of services that we are able to provide for so many different people in the community. I enjoy speaking to our clients, and dropping in at the day programs to see what everyone is up to. Each and every staff member is extremely friendly and everyone is such a great emotional support to each other, always happy to listen. I feel very fortunate to be working at Interchange.
