Colin Bush has been a participant of Interchange Australia’s Day Options program for several years now and has enjoyed participating in the array of activities on offer throughout the years, but above all else he loves heading out on social outings with his friends and enjoys a good coffee!
When it was announced that we were going into lockdown due to the recent COVID outbreak Colin was quite disappointed that he was going to miss out on the three things he enjoyed most; going out, hanging out with and catching up with friends and a good coffee!
Colin started receiving 1:1 services during lockdown and in this time participated in a number of online zoom sessions such as cooking, music and drama – where he got to see his friends online. But he still felt like he was missing out on being able to talk to them properly during these sessions as they were all occupied with the activity taking place, the following week Colin joined in on a group chat session being run by Narellan campus, he loved it so much that he asked his support workers Tim and Judy if we could possibly run one from Southern Highlands as well.
Following this Colin with some assistance from Tim started his own online Coffee group chat session, each Tuesday Colin and Tim would head into the interchange office at Bowral and set up for an online group chat. Colin’s coffee and a chat group has been such a hit that even now with things opening back up he will continue to run the session each week linking all the houses up for an afternoon tea break each Tuesday “Join Colin for a Coffee” this group is open for anyone to attend even from home.
We look forward to seeing more updates on Colin’s group in the future, a great way to stay in touch with your friends – even if you can’t be there!
