Hello my name is Jane and I am a new account manager here at Interchange Australia. I am originally from Newcastle, living in Germany, Sydney and then settling here in the Southern Highlands 12 years ago with my clockmaker husband and two children. I have been with Interchange for just under 4 weeks now and it has been such a great experience for me so far. I come from a background of no experience in the disability sector and it is really incredible being opened up to a ‘new world’. I love learning about the disability sector and feel so lucky to be apart of something making a difference, and helping people with disabilities have access to what we take for granted in day to day life.
I was a few moments late logging on, I knew the session had already started, but the internet had been playing up for months. I was greeted by a cacophony of noise and chaos as I tried to work out what was going on. It didn’t take me long. One of the clients was showing everyone her pet guinea pig, and it was causing huge excitement and laughter. It was a timely reminder how important our work is, even when delivering an online format…..
I got my second shot last Friday. It hit home for me when I started to see the clients around me having been vaccinated, but I still wasn’t. What’s the point of client’s being vaccinated if I am not? I am supposed to be providing a safe environment for them.
Hi my name is Sarah and I have been with Le Plan Manager for just over a year. I am a Wollondilly local, being brought up in the Couridjah area. I have been happily married for 25 years and have 4 gorgeous sons who are all adults now living close to home, with one getting married next year and also expecting my first grandchild in two months! I really enjoy living in the Southern Highlands area because of the country-like atmosphere you get without being too out of area, I can get everything I need within an hours drive in all directions.
Meet Amanda, Interchange Australia’s new rostering Coordinator.
I am a Bowral resident through and through, I was born and bred here in the Southern Highlands and I have stayed here my whole life. I love the atmosphere of the Bowral, country living but just busy enough to be lively, all my family is around me which makes it feel even more like home. I love how Bowral is close to the city and close to the coast, the perfect in-between location for all kinds of adventures, living and relaxation.
The covid-19 vaccine rollout is well under way, and we as Aged Care and Disability workers are eligible to get ours now! There are over 5 million other Australians who have gotten the jab, including all of the managers and many of the support workers at Interchange Australia.
Why do we show up to work? What makes us come back, even on the hard days? If you ask other support workers these questions, the answers you get are not “I do it for the money” or “It’s just easy and convenient for now”.
Why Australia? I threw a dart at a world map and that’s where it landed. I grew up in Holland, and in 1974 fate had me land in Australia. I remember flying in for the very first time and looking down and it was all red land and blue sky. Very impressive, very different.
I’d finally had enough of Sydney traffic so 6 months ago I moved to the Southern Highlands with my husband and 3 boys. Since then we’ve been busy renovating our house, we adopted 2 rescue kittens, and I’ve started work at Interchange Australia as the Training and Compliance Coordinator.
